The battle for the top places in the NIHL South Division 1 table hots up this weekend for the Invicta Dynamos.

Karl Lennon’s men had no issues last Sunday against bottom side Milton Keynes Thunder - winning 16-4 - but their two opponents coming up will provide much sterner tests.

First up for the Mos is Saturday’s trip to Slough Jets, a team they haven’t yet beaten and one who they leapfrogged into third place last weekend. Both have much to gain.

Sunday’s visitors, Chelmsford Chieftains, sit just below them in the table, smarting from two losses on their home ice at the hands of the Gillingham side.

Looking ahead to Slough, Lennon said: “Slough have been in third place the whole season, really. They are a strong, young, quite dynamic team with a lot of pace and a lot of creativity in their squad. They work very hard as well and we are going to have to be very good on Saturday to beat them in their rink.”

In the three previous meetings the Jets have won 3-2, 5-2 and 4-2. This is the last time they meet this campaign in the regular season.

Lennon said: “For me it is a prime focus to get something against them. We managed to jump them in the league last weekend and we believe in our capabilities.

“We go there with added confidence for the performances we have had in recent weeks but we won’t underestimate them, not by a long way.

“They are a dangerous team and in their rink on their night they can beat anyone in our league.”

The last meeting between the sides was at the end of October but the Mos have improved since then, with better availability and plenty of confidence of late.

Lennon added: “They will know we are a different proposition to when we played them last time, and players are in better form. The squad is healthier than it has been in the time we played them before and it is an exciting opportunity for us.”

South Cup Final opponents Chelmsford make the trip to Medway on Sunday (5.15pm) - a teaser ahead of their trophy meet-up on the weekend of March 4-5.

The Chiefs sit two places and three points behind the Mos in the league.

Lennon said: “We’ve played very well in their rink this year, the last time we played them in our rink was in the early stages of the cup competition and they beat us 6-5 here.

“We are desperate to get a win and that will be a game where of course there is a lot of lessons to be learned by both teams anyway because there is the final coming.

“On top of that I imagine it will be a packed out crowd, they often bring a lot of travelling support.

“It is an exciting weekend coming up, a massive one for the club.”
