Invicta Dynamos moved a step nearer to the final four of the ENIHL Cup on Sunday with a closer-than-expected 5-3 victory over Haringey Greyhounds at Alexandra Palace.

Laurence Billing added to his growing reputation by hitting two goals and an assist, Martin Melichercik, Elliot Andrews and Anthony Leone scored the other markers and in his second start of the campaign Ian Rowlands saved 21 shots.

A previously feeble side, Haringey looked to be heading towards yet another heavy defeat as Andrews, Melichercik, Billing and Leone hit first-period goals to put Invicta 4-1 up after 20 minutes.

Michael Varcoe had given the home side brief hope with a powerplay goal at 11.17.

The expected second period goal rush didn’t materialise, however, as Invicta struggled to break down their hosts.

Another powerplay goal, from Callum Mathison, gave Haringey further hope going into the third period. But Invicta rallied to ensure a comfortable final 15 minutes as Billing grabbed his second at 44.49.

Gary Dodds scored a third for Haringey late on.
