Invicta Dynamos claimed their most impressive road win of the season on Sunday as their powerplay came to the fore in a 6-3 victory at the Oxford City Stars.
Despite the emphatic scoreline, it took Kevin Parrish’s men until the third period to take a lead, a position from which they never looked back.
Nick Oliver gave Oxford a first-period lead before a powerplay marker from Andy Smith, his first back in Invicta colours, levelled matters in the second period.
Smith’s goal only stirred a response from Oxford, however, as Darren Elliott restored the home side's lead before the second interval.
A quick goal at the start of the third period from Martin Melichercik pulled Invicta level again, and once Elliot Andrews’ powerplay score had put them ahead for the first time, there was only one outcome.
Melichercik hit the visitors’ fourth of the night, and third with the man advantage, Karl Lennon scored the fifth and Andrews rounded off the win with an empty net effort in the final seconds. Sandwiched in between was Oxford’s third, scored by Joe Edwards, and some impressive netminding by Invicta’s Joe White.
