A change of approach at Priestfield may be the answer to turning Gillingham’s home form around.
That’s the view of Gills boss Justin Edinburgh after another team flooded the midfield with bodies and walked away with a result.
Gillingham have failed to win any of their previous three home games and only a last-gasp equaliser rescued a point for them last Saturday against Colchester.
Edinburgh said: “We haven’t been as fluid (at home), certainly in our last three home games, prior to the MK Dons game and the Sheffield United match.
“We have to get back on track here and we have to be braver.
“I think on the flip side teams are only playing one upfront here now and really showing us a lot of respect. In that case we need to be brighter and have more nous to break that down.
“I might need to look at certain formations and having a change there. We have to be learning all the time and we certainly have to look at that as we go along.
“With the run we have been on, a lot of teams have thought, ‘we are not going to open up because they will take us apart’. Of late, as showed on Saturday, Colchester come with a 4-5-1 formation and they are marking our full-backs, stopping them getting out. We will have to assess and adjust one or two things and make some changes.”
