Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh believes Cody McDonald will be firing in the goals again this season.
The striker endured a frustrating 2015/16 campaign, which was blighted by injury and limited him to just 13 league starts and five goals.
McDonald had led the scoring charts at Gills in the previous two seasons and bagged 25 in 2010/11. Edinburgh believes he could be their main man again, having got back to full fitness in the closing weeks of last season.
He said: “He was back to what I knew of Cody. He looked dangerous and he was causing problems.
“If we’d had Cody all season, with the way we were playing, he certainly would have hit his 15-20 goal target."
McDonald missed most of last pre-season through injury and broke his foot at Millwall in December.
Edinburgh said: “He came back really well last pre-season but he picked up an injury in France, then he had the problem with his heel and then broke a bone in his foot. We have been in football long enough and things like that happen.”
Gills returned from a week-long training camp at Le Touquet in France on Saturday. They played a friendly on Friday evening, beating local side AS Etaples 2-0 with goals from Lee Martin and a Mark Byrne penalty.
Edinburgh's side visit Concord Rangers on Tuesday and travel to Billericay on Wednesday.
