Gillingham’s slow start is something manager Justin Edinburgh hopes won’t be repeated too often.
Refereeing decisions aside, his Gills team didn’t help themselves on Saturday, as their first half performance was sluggish.
Yeovil scored once and came close to scoring at least one more before a reshuffle at the break turned the tide.
“There were some disappointing factors for the first half,” said Edinburgh.
“But what I saw was that we do have character, we can overcome a slow start, but we want to make sure we certainly start quicker than we did.”
Edinburgh’s side responded after the break and the Gills were unlucky not to take maximum points.
“I feel that in the first half we would have taken a point,” he admitted. “We were slow, with no cohesion and certainly second best, but we had words at half-time and the response was brilliant.
“We restricted them to very little in the second half, with shots outside the box, and there was a lot of improvement. In the second half there was a lot to be pleased about.
“We showed good character and to score as late as we did, I thought we would take all three points. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be.”
