Gills manager Justin Edinburgh believes his strikers will deliver when needed.
Gillingham’s four front-men have just two goals between them – both scored by Luke Norris.
It’s attacking midfielder Bradley Dack who heads the League 1 goal charts – with five – but Edinburgh is confident his other strikers, Cody McDonald, Ben Williamson and Rory Donnelly, will deliver.
He said: “Strikers are a breed to their own and thrive off scoring goals. They will all enjoy playing in a successful team but will want to see their name on the scoresheet.
“I have been delighted with Luke’s form, as I have with them all because they have all contributed to a lot of what has been good about us and that starts by defending from the front. They set the tone and everything about them I have been delighted with.
“A good thing for us is that we are getting goals from around the team. Right now Dacky is in a real rich vein of form and if that doesn’t continue, then we need someone else to dovetail him and that’s what we have in the team.
“We know those other players can score and when needed, they will be there to call upon.”
Edinburgh is willing to be patient with McDonald, who has yet to reach full fitness following his pre-season injury.
McDonald’s forward partner Norris is in top form, however, and Edinburgh is delighted with the 22-year-old.
He said: “He is disappointed he hasn’t got more goals and a couple of inches here or there he would probably have five or six but he is playing a major part in our success and I am delighted with him.
“He wants more goals, as do all the strikers, in Cody, Willo and Rory – they haven’t got off the mark but they are all striving to.”
