Manager Justin Edinburgh has warned Gillingham to be wary of a Rochdale backlash.
The teams meet at Priestfield on Saturday with Dale’s League 1 play-off hopes in the balance after a 4-2 home defeat by Swindon on Tuesday night.
It’s left the Lancashire club seven points adrift of sixth-placed Chesterfield, albeit with a game in hand but Gills boss Edinburgh is certain they won’t be giving up on the play-offs.
He said: “They’re still fighting for it and it’s going to be a wounded animal but one that still sees itself as having an opportunity of making the play-offs.
“But we’re at home and we’ve got to go and impose ourselves and try and continue the good run we’re on.”
Gills moved on to 56 points with their midweek draw at Preston and Edinburgh, who has no injury worries, wants to reach at least 60 in the last three games.
He added: “We’ve just got to try and be competitive in every game.
“Like I said before our last home game against Bradford, we want to finish our home season strongly and that goes for another game against a team who are seriously chasing the play-offs in Rochdale."
