Sunday’s game against Millwall is one that everyone has been waiting for, says Gillingham defender John Egan.
A bumper crowd will be heading for Priestfield as the Gills look to take three points and claim a play-off place.
“It was probably the first game people looked at when the fixtures came out,” said Egan.
“It is a massive game. We took a lot of fans to their ground and got the win. It’s a different game this weekend but if we go out there with the right mentality and play like we can, then hopefully it will make for a brilliant day.
“The fans will be buzzing.Even when I went and got my hair cut four or five months ago the hairdressers were talking about it back then. Everyone has been waiting for this one.
“I have friends and family coming from Ireland and it should be a great atmosphere.
“Millwall will have their group of fans and our fans will be backing us to the hilt. It should make for a fantastic day.”
It’s win or bust now for the Gills – and even then they need to rely on results elsewhere.
And they are only clinging onto a chance of winning a play-off spot thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from Colchester’s Tom Lapslie at Barnsley.
Egan said: “Everyone is still positive. Results haven’t gone for us in the last two or three months but we live to fight another day. We have another game and the good thing is that we had a fantastic start to this season and that has allowed us to still be in there with a chance.
“Our form hasn’t been where we would like it to be over the last few months but because of the start we had, we are still up there.
“Going into the last day there is something to play for. Let’s see what happens.”
