John Egan emerged from the weekend battered and bruised but he’s in no mood for a rest.
Another immense performance from the defender helped frustrate League 1 leaders Bristol City on Saturday.
He fell awkwardly in the first half but managed to see the game out.
Speaking afterwards and looking in some discomfort, he said: “Touch wood now nothing is wrong and I feel alright. I don’t need a rest.
“I fell and smacked the top of my neck and back onto the ground. My back was aching and I jarred my knee as well. It was a bit of all sorts. I didn’t know whether to hold me neck or my knee!
“Thankfully after about two hours the referee stopped play and I was allowed to get seen to.”
The Gills are due back in action on Tuesday at fellow play-off hopefuls Chesterfield.
Gills manager Justin Edinburgh has barely changed the team since taking over and Egan feels they are benefiting from that consistency.
He said: “We have had a settled formation for the last few weeks and a settled team. You know what is expected in every game. You try and do your best in that position.
“We are obviously on a good run at the moment, we haven’t lost many games. We have won a good few and long may it continue.
“Everyone worked hard for each other on Saturday with nobody really standing out on the ball or anything but we all dug in and stuck together.
“Without that in the dressing room you are a bit lost so we are lucky we have it. We manage to play for each other.”
