John Egan was named Gillingham player-of-the-year during Sunday night’s end of season award ceremony.
The Irish defender made 52 appearances for the Gills as they finished in their highest position since relegation from the Championship in 2005.
He also took home the away fans player-of-the-year award.
Egan said: “I couldn’t be happier playing every week with the lads. It’s an extremely proud moment for myself and my family.
“I go to bed at night looking forward to coming into training every day. The boys here put a smile on my face.”
Taking third place for the player-of-the-year award was Cody McDonald, who ended the season with 18 goals, while runner-up for the main trophy of the night was Bradley Dack.
Dack ended the night scooping a trio of awards, along with the runner-up prize, as he was named sponsor’s player-of-the-year by MEMS, young player-of-the-year and the players’ player-of-the-year.
The goal-of-the-season went to Luke Norris for his strike against Sheffield United back in September.
Leon Legge took the third place award, for his last minute equaliser at Preston, while second place went to Cody McDonald for his back-heeled effort at Swindon.
The Chairman’s Cup, rewarded to someone Paul Scally felt excelled well during the season, went to Jermaine McGlashan, who said: “I’m glad I’ve progressed the way I have and long may it continue.”
There was also an award to Nick Nicolaou, who works in the club’s sales and commercial department, who was presented with the Elliot Scally Cup for Special Achievement, having worked continuously while receiving treatment for cancer.
Peter Lloyd was also recognised for his long-standing support for the Gills and was handed the ‘club hero’ award, a newly introduced trophy each Football League club hands to a worthy recipient.
The Gills Ladies team also received their awards, with Ellie Manning taking the player-of-the-year award and Georgia Reece taking the young player trophy.
