Max Ehmer is thriving on the pressure of Gillingham’s play-off fight and claims they have nothing to lose.
Manager Justin Edinburgh has stressed the need for players to hold their nerve and, in Ehmer, he has no need to worry.
Gills are only two points clear of Barnsley in the final League 1 play-off place and four ahead of Rochdale, their opponents at Spotland on Tuesday.
They are making hard work of a top-six finish after four games without a win but the situation will bring out the best in German defender Ehmer.
He said: “I’m thriving on it instead of feeling the pressure. We’ve got nothing to lose. I think a lot of Gillingham fans, at the start of the season, would be buzzing with where we are now.
“Two wins out of four games I think seals play-offs and we’re more than capable of doing that, if not four wins.
“We’re such a young group and obviously the experienced boys will know how to deal with these situations and I think the young boys, me included, we’re just relishing the chance.
“We know we can go anywhere and get three points. I don’t see why we can’t do it at Rochdale."
