Defender Max Ehmer has signed a new Gillingham contract.

It comes after the German centre-back, 31, made his 350th Gills appearance during Easter Monday’s 2-1 defeat at Northampton.

Ehmer said: "I’m delighted to have signed a new contract.

"I feel at home here.

"I very much enjoy playing for the club, I have a great relationship with the fans and I will continue to give my very best to achieve our collective goals."

The former Queens Park Rangers player first joined the Priestfield outfit on loan in November 2014 and, having extended that deal until the end of the season, he signed a three-year contract in the summer of 2015.

He remained with the club until the middle of 2020, agreeing a deal with Bristol Rovers, before he returned to ME7 12 months later on a two-year contract.

The length of Ehmer's new deal hasn’t been announced but it will keep him at the club next season.

He has scored 17 times for Gills in his 350 games, the last of which came at home to AFC Wimbledon in February amid a 2-1 win.

Gillingham, 19th in League 2, nine points clear of the relegation zone with five games left this season, have back-to-back home fixtures to look forward to, as they aim to ease any lingering fears of relegation out of the Football League.

They play third-placed Stockport this Saturday and welcome leaders Leyton Orient to Priestfield on Tuesday.
