Indonesian international defender Elkan Baggott is recalled from his loan at Gillingham and moves to League 1 Cheltenham Town

Defender Elkan Baggott has moved up a division after being recalled from his loan spell at Gillingham.

The 20-year-old centre-back spent the first half of the season with the Gills and got plenty of game-time but parent club Ipswich Town now want him to experience life in League 1.

Baggott has joined Cheltenham Town for the remainder of the season.

The Indonesian defender made 29 appearances for the Gills during his loan stay, and was keen to help the club’s battle at the wrong end of League 2 over Christmas rather than play for his country in the South Asia cup tournament.

He signed his first professional contract for Ipswich in January last year and signed a new three-year deal at the club in June.

“I'm delighted to be here,” he said, speaking to his new club. “I'm ready to get going, and help in the best way I can to assure we stay in this league.

"I want to help out at both ends of the pitch. Obviously, I need to do my defensive work, but I want to chip in and help add goals too."

Cheltenham are 18th in the League 1 table, four points above the relegation places.
