Former Gillingham boss Steve Evans is the favourite to take over at Bradford City.

Evans, who left Priestfield by mutual consent last month, is priced 5/2 to succeed Derek Adams, who was sacked yesterday after only eight months in charge.

He has history in Yorkshire, of course, managing Rotherham to back-to-back promotions before preserving Leeds’ Championship status, and could be a good fit for the Bantams, with the former Premier League club languishing in League 2.

Other contenders include ex-Hull boss Grant McCann (6/1) and former Sunderland manager Lee Johnson (10/1) while veteran promotion specialist Neil Warnock (20/1) and ex-Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler (25/1) also feature in the markets.

It’s not the first job Evans has been linked with this season, having been favourite for Stevenage while still in charge at Gillingham.

One man who feels he’d be perfect for Bradford is Darragh MacAnthony, his old chairman at Peterborough.

When Evans appeared on MacAnthony’s The Hard Truth podcast last month, the Posh chief said: “I’ve always said the one person who’d get Bradford to the Championship is Steve Evans.

“If I could bet, I would put £100,000 on whatever odds it would be that Steve Evans in three seasons would have Bradford in the Championship, with his eyes closed.

"And he doesn’t even need serious backing to do it because they’ve got 20,000 fans helping their budget every year that go every week.”
