Steve Evans knows Gills need to find a goalscorer in the January transfer window.
Gillingham have been letting teams off the hook after failing to finish their chances and a midweek trip to Shrewsbury highlighted the area of weakness once again.
Brandon Hanlan was leading the line for the Gills but boss Evans acknowledged that goals are still missing from the striker’s game.
Hanlan has scored just three times in 15 appearances this season.
Evans said: “Brandon will get a share of goals but he is not that deadly finisher, he is not a Tom Eaves is he? He is not a Jack Marriott.
“He is not an out and out goalscorer but I tell you what, I wouldn’t want my teams to face him, he is as good as most in the league.
“If Brandon had goals he would be away from here for millions. All round he is better than Tom Eaves but he doesn’t score the goals Tom gets.”
More on the Gills;
Evans has been looking for a replacement for Eaves since the day he arrived.
He said: “What we know is that we don’t have that striker who is going to be in the goal charts at the end of the season, high up there.
“Brandon was wonderful (on Tuesday). He covered every blade of grass, as he did on Saturday, and you wouldn’t wish to be in a team that is playing against him. Last season the club was very fortunate to have Tom Eaves, who was working with Brandon.
“Eaves was the goalscorer and we need to make sure we find someone like that in January. We have got some options, whether we can afford to get them in, we will try.”
