According to a report issued by the Football Association, Gillingham are the only EFL club to have paid nothing to agents.

The Football Association’s annual report covers fees paid to agents and intermediaries during player transfers between February 1, 2020 and February 1, 2021.

Intermediaries were involved in seven Gillingham deals, for Christian Maghoma, Vadaine Oliver, Jacob Mellis, Jordan Graham, Dominci Samuel, Robbie McKenzie and Sacha Bastien but the Gills have no financial outgoings to their name.

Just over £3m was spent between the rest of the clubs in League 1, with league leaders Hull City topping the lot by shelling out £543,238.

Gillingham are generally the lowest spenders on agent fees with 28,088 in 2019 with just £1 more spent in total the following year.

In the National League Ebbsfleet United spent £7,710.

Those amounts are in stark contrast to the top of the English game.

In the Premier League over £272m was spent on fees, with Chelsea top spenders on £35m, closely followed by Manchester City £30m and Manchester United £29m.

Championship side Norwich City dished out £6.8m in fees and will see it as money well spent as they sit top of the table

Details are published under FIFA’s regulations on working with intermediaries, introduced in 2015, which says the FA is required to annually publish the details.
