Gillingham have had a rethink over season ticket pricing for their youngest fans.

Supporters reacted with disappointment last week over the loss of the scheme which offered under-12s big discounts on tickets.

Previously fans could buy under-12 season tickets for as low as £35, if purchased early, but that initiative was scrapped.

A backlash against that decision has led the club to change their mind.

All supporters who currently have an under-12 season ticket this season can get a renewal for £35 during the ‘early bird’ period up to April 29 and for £50 after that date.

Anybody who doesn’t have an under-12 ticket at present but wants one for the 2017/18 season can pay £50 at the end of this season.

The club will be keeping the offer of one free under-12 matchday ticket for each adult seat purchased for a game.

Chairman Paul Scally said: “I held a meeting this morning with our ticket and media/marketing teams to discuss a few queries that have been raised regarding the release of the latest season ticket prices for next season.

“Some supporters have raised fair points and given we value comment at all times we have decided to make a few alterations.

“The changes we had proposed for under-12 season tickets were made on the basis of a number of new initiatives we are introducing next season which may conflict. However I do take the point made by some current season ticket holders that our changes could also disadvantage sales of that particular sector.

“I hope this addresses the concerns of our loyal supporters. It is always our intention to ensure fans are content with what we are trying to achieve, given the balance and needs of keeping your club in business and trying to compete on the field of play as best possible."

Mr Scally added: “To those who have used social media, message boards or other media purporting to be fans but saying they would be going to Charlton Athletic or elsewhere next season, I wish you all the best. Thanks for your support – we’ll manage without you.

“To everyone else, we have a number of big games between now and the season's end, so we need you in good form as our 12th man.”
