Manager Mark Bonner enjoyed the “random” act of togetherness as Gillingham and Millwall fans sang for England ahead of today’s Euro 2024 final.

Bonner’s Gillingham team and Championship side Millwall played out a goalless draw at Priestfield on Saturday and in the second half fans of both teams were singing for Gareth Southgate’s England.

That support for England created a lively atmosphere at Priestfield in a pre-season game where chances at goal were limited.

Bonner said: “To be in another final, I am really excited about it and the whole stadium was united.

“Tim Dieng (Gillingham’s French midfielder) was fuming with the end music (Three Lions) to be honest!

“But it was nice to hear everyone singing for England.

“It was really random that Gillingham were playing Millwall and the songs were all about England, but it was brilliant.”

Spain are favourites to win the final in Berlin.

Bonner was in Gelsenkirchen to see England beat Serbia in their first group game but admits his own team’s relentless training programme means he won’t be able to head to the final.

He said: “I was hoping to get there but it will be impossible to get out there and back in time, the training plan is the training plan.

“I will find a few people to watch it with no doubt and I can’t wait, it is brilliant isn’t it?

“Hopefully (there will be) some nice celebrations.

“It is great that we are there in the final but we’re playing the best team aren’t we? Let’s see what happens.

“It suits us to be the underdog. It will be exciting I am sure!”

There were 1,800 Millwall fans at Priestfield in a crowd of 4,280.
