Gillingham eased to victory on their first pre-season outing of the summer.

Rory Donnelly put the Gills ahead in the first half and Cody McDonald doubled the advantage early in the second.

Bradley Dack made it 3-0 to complete a comfortable work-out for the Gills.

Visiting boss Justin Edinburgh fielded a different team in each half and all of the club’s new signing were included.

A crowd of 534 were in attendance at the Fullicks Stadium for Frankie Chappell’s testimonial match, with the problems on the road networks making life difficult for the visiting fans.

Former Tottenham Foundation College midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe looked bright and he shot narrowly wide early on, after space opened up following a driving run.

Luke Norris was paired with newcomer Donnelly in the first half and the debutant took just 26 minutes to open his account.

Donnelly, signed from Swansea this summer, latched onto a ball and after taking a touch to control it, he drove a shot low past keeper Tim Roberts.

Prior to the goal Norris, Donnelly and skipper Doug Loft had all gone close.

Gillingham were lined up in a 3-5-2 formation, the system boss Justin Edinburgh utilised towards the end of last season, with Josh Hare, John Egan and youngster Mitchell Dickenson at the back.

They were rarely troubled in the first half, against a strike force that included former Gills pair Ashley Miller and Josh Stanford.

Jon Pilbeam went close for the Ryman League side just before the end of the first half.

McDonald rose bravely to nod in Gills’ second just four minutes after the restart, taking a whack in the process. He had another chance deflected over the bar soon after.

It was a positive start to the second half for the Gills, with Bradley Garmston down the left helping drive the team on.

Pilbeam had a rare chance for the hosts, shooting from long range, but the shot was well wide.

A good move led to Gillingham’s third goal that was finished off by Dack, charging past a number of challenges, before turning the ball home across the keeper with just over an hour gone.
