There will be no Priestfield return for winger Jordan Roberts.
The former Ipswich Town man, who Gills manager Steve Evans had spoken to about returning on a permanent deal, has instead moved north of the border.
Roberts, 26, was a free agent after being released by Ipswich and has decided to join Scottish Championship side Hearts, signing a two-year-deal.
On joining Hearts, he said: “For me it was a no brainer to come down here and see the stadium, the history behind the club and the direction the manager wants to go in.”
Roberts got back playing again during a loan spell with the Gills at the back end of the 2019/20 season, making 10 league starts under Evans, scoring twice in a 2-2 draw at Rochdale.
Evans has diligently gone about his transfer business since chairman Paul Scally opened them up for business once the new start date was announced.
There was a double signing on Monday, with the club saying they had signed promising Arsenal defender Zech Medley on loan despite interest from three Championship sides.
Gillingham also beat off competition for the signing of former Bolton midfielder Jacob Mellis, who moves on a permanent contract. The Gills do now have 11 senior players contracted to the club and more will follow.
The pair arrive following the recent additions of Vadaine Oliver and Ryan Jackson.
