Striker Mikael Mandron has joined newly promoted Crewe Alexandra following a season at Gillingham.
The Gills had been hoping to keep hold of the 25-year-old but he’s instead signed a deal with the Railwaymen.
Mandron was the last player to score for the Gills in the league, netting twice as the club claimed a last-gasp draw at Sunderland on March 7.
He’s not the first out of contract player at Gillingham to have looked elsewhere with midfielder Regan Charles-Cook and captain Max Ehmer moving on.
Mandron had been waiting on a firm offer from the Gills as they waited on a date for a new season. Mandron scored five goals in 13 league starts during the 2019/20 campaign. Those contract offers are now being made but the French striker will be coming up against Steve Evans’ side next season rather than playing for them.
He said: "I know it's a club that love to play good football and that was the main thing for me."
Another of Gills’ out of contract players is Brandon Hanlan but it remains to be seen if he will sign with the club or also look to move on.
The Gills, meanwhile, held a virtual end of season presentation on Friday night where defender Connor Ogilvie was the big winner.
