Gillingham players have been put through their paces during Ady Pennock’s first week in charge.
Double sessions in training have been put on so that Pennock and the new management team can assess just what they are working with.
Pennock said: “I am not flogging them or anything but we have been doing a lot on shapes and working hard, with a lot of ball drills and they have responded well, I have been pleased.
“We came in on Friday for our first session and we had an in-house game on the Saturday, which went well.
“We put some youngsters in there as well, I just wanted everyone to get a picture of how I wanted them to play and everyone, individually, what their jobs are.
“We had double sessions Monday and Tuesday and they are working hard. How I like them to train is how I like them to play on a Saturday. It is all high intensity and they have been first class.”
It’s been a busy few days for Pennock as well.
He was at the youth game in Sheffield last Friday, watched League 1 rivals Wimbledon in the FA Cup on Saturday and West Ham’s development side on Monday night.
He was at Mansfield on Tuesday night to watch this weekend’s opponents Oldham, as they crashed out of the Checkatrade Trophy, losing 2-0.
“It has been full on but I’m not complaining," he said. “I love it. It is what I am paid to do and I will give my best for this club.”
