Injured defender Gabriel Zakuani has left Gillingham.
The 33-year-old hasn't played since suffering an injury in the game against Barnsley in February 2019.
He was contracted for this season, having joined in the summer of 2017, but has agreed with the club to cancel his contract.
Zakuani, who had the captaincy last season prior to his injury, leaves after making 76 appearances for the club in all competitions.
He is nearing recovery from his ankle injury.
Gills boss Steve Evans said: “It goes without saying my respect and admiration for Gabby is enormous but this is a kid who has just returned to fitness and is desperate for almost immediate first-team action.
"Given the recent recruitments we have signed and given what we are trying to do, Gabby felt it was important for him to go and play and continue his career.
“There is no doubting his ability, his tenacity, his desire and commitment that he has given to Gills, and that I watched many times live when supporting Peterborough United and he was a talisman in that magnificent side at Posh."
The Gills have also announced that first year pro Miguel Scarlett and midfielder Bradley Stevenson have also left.
Right-back Scarlett accepted a pro deal in the summer after spending time on loan at Sheppey United last season.
Stevenson, 20, made his debut for the Gills in the Football League trophy three years ago.
He made three appearances in the league during the 2018/19 season, with his debut coming in a 4-1 defeat against Sunderland, having impressed earlier against Millwall in the League Cup.
