Gillingham manager Steve Evans hasn’t ended his search for new players just yet.
Two loan signings this week bolstered his squad, bringing in left-sided player Tom O’Connor from Southampton and centre-half Declan Drysdale from Coventry City.
Evans suggested last Saturday that a couple more additions would finish his summer rebuild but there’s always room for another player, particularly with the Gills light on numbers still.
During his weekly press conference, on Thursday, he revealed that he was looking at a player in the Scottish Premier League.
Evans commented: "The chairman said if there is one that pops up and it is the right one then we will discuss it.
"We have got three or four in the treatment room, which doesn't help us, they are getting back rapidly. We have good variability in the squad. We’ll have a look at it in the middle of next week probably.
"We go to Shrewsbury (on Saturday) and regardless of how it goes there we will make changes for Ipswich (in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday), which is not a priority competition for us. By Wednesday/Thursday I will sit with the board and look at current status in the treatment room and then look around the shape of the team and the squad and see if we need anything.
"As the chairman said, if there is an exciting one there, do it. There is a young man at the minute who we would like to bring in, who is with a Scottish Premier League club. It would perhaps have to be a permanent now, given we have the six loans in, but we are looking at allsorts."
Glaswegian boss Evans has already brought in Celtic youngster Scott Robertson and this week’s additions take his collection of loan players to six, meaning any more arrivals are likely to be permanent.
O’Connor and Drysdale will be in line to make their debuts at Shrewsbury on Saturday.
Robertson is an injury doubt after picking up a knock last week while fellow midfielders Matty Willock, Kyle Dempsey and Stuart O’Keefe are all out.
Christian Maghoma is back available following a negative Covid-19 test. He played in a midweek practice game against Peterborough United.
Evans has signed 15 new players this summer while youngster Henry Woods agreed a contract extension. Lee Hodson is out on loan for the season, leaving him with 23 senior players, although O’Keefe has been ruled out for the season.
