Gillingham captain Kyle Dempsey is concentrating on his football amid speculation over his future.
Rumours of a bid from Gills’ League 1 rivals Charlton Athletic have surfaced ahead of the transfer deadline next week.
The 25-year-old is in the second of a two-year contract following his move from Fleetwood Town. The midfielder was made captain by manager Steve Evans and has proved to be a classy addition for the squad.
Evans said the club knocked back an offer for Dempsey last season but he’s continued to attract interest.
Commenting on his the speculation, Dempsey said: “I have a year left at the club, that is my main focus, if anything happens it happens, if it doesn’t it doesn’t, but I am happy here and I will just continue to play my football
“You know you are doing something right, you are putting in performances that are attracting clubs and I need to concentrate on being here, putting in performances for this shirt, especially for the fans and and myself.”
Dempsey has been recovering from a slight hamstring injury but says he will be 100% ready this weekend, for the trip to Shrewsbury.
He said: “I will be ready to go Saturday and back to full fitness.”
