Comedians Josh Widdicombe and Nish Kumar used a recent Gillingham football match as part of a pilot for a potential new Sky TV comedy.
Last month’s Carabao Cup game at Crawley Town was the setting for the pilot episode that the two well-known comedy actors hope will be turned into a full on series. Footage from the Gills fixture could be part of it.
The pair are understood to be working on a comedy about the local newspaper industry.
Widdicombe - star of The Last Leg and a former sports journalist at The Guardian - was tasked with writing a report of the match as part of the script, with Kumar joking afterwards that he hadn’t included the score.
The match on the night ended with a thrilling penalty shootout which the Gills won 10-9.
Understood to be titled Hold The Front Page, the one-off episode was a pilot made to show commissioners. A Spokesperson for Josh said they hope it will go to series later next year.
