A late goal for Gillingham clinched them a one-goal victory against Italian side Como.
The Gills were up against the Serie B side as part of a five-day trip to the lakeside resort and the two teams were separated by Dom Jefferies’ 88th minute goal.
Gillingham included former Millwall man Scott Malone in their starting line-up - the 32-year-old is a free agent and training with the League 2 side.
A few hundred Gillingham fans had made the trip to Como to watch the match and enjoy a rare trip abroad with their team.
The opening half ended goalless and the best chances fell to the hosts just before the interval, a header from Marco Tremolada forcing keeper Glenn Morris into tipping the ball around the post.
Another chance moments later saw Alberto Cerri head over the bar.
Alessandro Gabrielloni was unable to capitalise on a good early chance after the interval as the Gills named a different eleven for the second 45.
Ronald Sithole was involved after the break and he had a shot defelcted wide while at the other end Gabrielloni’s header was off target.
The winner for the Gills came in the 87th minute when good work from Sithole led to a cross from Cheye Alexander, the ball was diverted onto the post and Jefferies was there to convert the loose ball.
Como went close to an equaliser with a couple of late chances but the Gills hung onto claim a win - their second of pre-season after beating Dover 4-0 on Saturday.
Gillingham will head home from their tour tomorrow (Thursday) with games at Chatham on Friday and at home to Millwall on Saturday to prepare for.
Striker Lewis Walker wasn’t involved after picking up an injury in the weekend game at Dover.
