Christian Maghoma remains in manager Steve Evans’ thoughts but the Gillingham defender has much to prove.
Maghoma is recovering from a twisted ankle and when he’s fit again the manager wants him to show more in the second half of the season than he did in the first.
The former Spurs defender had spent the last two seasons playing in Poland before joining the Gills in the summer. A training ground injury has left him sidelined of late but before that he was still down the pecking order.
He has started just four league games for the Gills this season.
Manager Steve Evans, who is hoping to sign a new centre-back in the coming days, said: “It is a shame about the injury but he is no more than 10 days, two weeks away.
“He has not had a great start to the campaign, he knows it, we know it but (before this season) he hadn’t played football for seven or eight months and someone who is 6ft 4inch and built the way Christian is, sometimes that is harder and we have seen that in a less dramatic form with John Akinde.
“They are big, robust and strong and when you haven’t had contact for six months and football for nine, it is hard on you.
“We will give Christian every opportunity to play a part and obviously if he doesn't when we get nearer to the summer we will have a chat. At the moment he has a lot more to give than what he has shown.”
