Gillingham defender Cheye Alexander named in St Lucia squad for weekend matches against Guadeloupe in the Concacaf Nations League

Gillingham defender Cheye Alexander has received an international call-up.

The 28-year-old right-back has been named in the Saint Lucia squad which means he will miss Gillingham’s weekend trip to Walsall.

A newcomer to the Caribbean national side, Alexander’s previous international experience came with an appearance in the England C side.

The former West Ham youth player has enjoyed plenty of football since his switch to Priestfield from Wimbledon, closing in on his 50th league appearance for the Gills.

St Lucia are due to play a Concacaf Nations League game on Friday against Guadeloupe before then playing the same side away from home on Sunday.

Gillingham’s interim boss Keith Millen confirmed on Tuesday night that the player will be on international duty this weekend, missing the League 2 fixturre against Walsall.

The Gills have a number of injured players at present and Scott Malone will also miss Saturday’s game, through suspension, after accumulating five bookings.
