Gillingham have been drawn at home to Coventry City in round two of the Carabao Cup - and could be heading for a Premier League side if they win.
Winners of Gills versus Coventry will play either Premier League Wolves or Championship side Stoke City away in round three, following the conclusion of their second round tie.
Second round opponents Coventry were promoted last season from League 1 after finishing top of the table.
The Gills missed out on a home league game against last season's table-toppers as it was one of the five games at Priestfield scrapped at the end of the season because of Covid-19.
Steve Evans’ Gillingham won through to the second round after defeating Southend United on Saturday.
The tie is due to be played at Priestfield on Tuesday, September 15, behind closed doors.
Third round matches take place a week later and that match is also likely to be played without fans in attendance.
Gillingham lost to Newport County in round one of the competition last season on penalties.
