Winger Connor Mahoney looks all set to be playing at Gillingham for the remainder of the season.
Mahoney signed on a season-long loan deal at Priestfield from Championship side Huddersfield Town in the summer and although teams usually have a break clause in January, Gills head coach Stephen Clemence doesn’t see anything changing.
Clemence has regularly named Mahoney as a starter for the Gills and the 26-year-old has scored twice in his last four appearances.
“I am expecting to have Connor here for the season,” Clemence said.
“He is the top league scorer (with four goals), he has lovely balance, can go left or right, which is very difficult to defend against, he has got excellent technique.
“Sometimes you look and think, ‘is he left footed or right?’ It’s fantastic.
“He has levels that technically are probably above this level, he definitely has a lot to offer and I am really happy to have Connor in the squad.
“He is a great lad as well, he gives everything he can and long may that continue.”
Mahoney missed the Charlton FA Cup game with a knock but was back in the starting line-up on Saturday.
He’s the only loan player on the books at Gillingham at present and clubs can name five in a matchday squad, giving them scope for exploring that market when the transfer window opens next month.
