Gillingham’s hopes of re-signing defender Connor Ogivlie have ended after he agreed a deal with League 1 rivals Portsmouth.
Ogilvie has been training with the Gills over the summer despite turning down a contract offer at the end of last season. Boss Steve Evans was holding onto hope that he might change his mind.
But the former Tottenham defender, now 25, has clinched a move to Pompey on a two-year deal, with an option of a third.
He leaves the Gills after making close to 150 league appearances for the club. His last game for them was in the recent pre-season match against Millwall.
Ogilvie has been a consistent performer in League 1 at Gillingham and that attracted him to Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley.
Cowley, speaking to the Pompey media, said: “Connor is someone who’s been a really consistent performer at League One level for a number of years.
“He’s won Player of the Season awards for Gillingham and was a key member of their side after coming through at Tottenham.
“Being able to play as a left-back or a left-sided centre-half offers us versatility and also real competition for places, which is crucial in a 46-game season.

Gillingham have already signed a replacement left-back over the summer with former Bristol Rovers player David Tutonda moving to Priestfield.
Another of Gills' summer targets Ryan Broom has also moved elsewhere in recent days, moving from Peterborough to Plymouth Argyle on a season loan.
