Gillingham boss Mark Bonner has confirmed that he’s had talks with former Priestfield favourite Bradley Dack.

The 30-year-old is a free agent after being released by Sunderland this summer.

Dack left the Gills in 2017 after moving to Blackburn Rovers for £750,000. He enjoyed his time at the Championship club, scoring 50 goals for them in a successful six-year spell, one that also saw him suffer from a couple of serious knee injuries.

He moved to Sunderland last summer to work with Tony Mowbray again, making 17 appearances for the club.

Dack was a fans’ favourite at Priestfield after breaking through from the youth team. He became a player equally adept at creating chances as he was hunting them out, often a step ahead of opposition players at Gillingham’s level.

He left the Gills after making over 150 league appearances and 31 goals.

Speaking after Gills’ win over Watford, Bonner was asked if he’d spoken to Dack. He said: “I have spoken to him but I have spoken to a lot of players in the last 10 days, so nothing other than some conversations. There is no more than that at the moment.

“We are looking to add in attacking positions, we are looking to add potentially in midfield because at the moment we are light but Robbie (McKenzie) has done really well in there.

“We have got lots to add to the squad at the moment but there is no real news on anybody coming in, nothing is imminent, but I have had a number of conversations with players that potentially we could add, just to find out if there is interest, if I like them, if I think they can come and make us better.

“Those conversations go on all the time and he (Dack) is one of many that I have met in recent weeks.”

The Gills have played two pre-season matches so far, against Millwall and Watford, and have played an attacking trialist in each of those games.

West Ham’s Kamarai Simon-Swyer played against Millwall but wasn’t involved on Saturday, while former Charlton player Euan Williams started and scored against Watford.
