A practice game next week will give Gills’ management team the chance to have another look at trialists in action.
While free-agent Franck Moussa has signed on until the end of the season, Lovell is still assessing striker Rhys Murphy and Iranian midfielder Navid Nasseri.
Murphy and Nasseri played against Maidstone United last week in the Kent Senior Cup and have continued to train with the Gills.
A midweek game could be crucial for the two trialists.
Lovell said: “It is an opportunity for them. Navid has done okay, he’s a good lad and Rhys has done alright.
“They are hungry to get back playing football and that is the big thing that I have seen from them, which is great.
“They obviously have to be good enough to warrant a place in the squad, but they are not out of it. We will have to see how the next week goes.
“To be fair to them, I’ll probably have to make a decision sooner rather than later, so that they can get themselves sorted out.”
