Gillingham will start their 2024/25 League 2 season on home soil.
Mark Bonner’s men will take on another team well-fancied for success this season in the opening game when Carlisle United make the long trip to Priestfield.
Gillingham’s 2024/25 fixtures in full
The first game of the season is scheduled for Saturday, August 10 with the first round of the Carabao Cup taking place that same week.
The draw for the Carabao Cup takes place on Thursday.
Opening-day league opponents Carlisle are hoping for a quick return to League 1 following last season’s relegation.
Bonner’s side face plenty of long trips this season and they’ve got back-to-back games at Morecambe and Fleetwood during the opening month.
The season is scheduled to finish on Saturday, May 3 and the Gills will be on their travels, away to Port Vale.
Former boss Stephen Clemence makes an early return to Priestfield with his new club Barrow at the end of September. He was sacked by the Gills at the end of last season but was quick to find another job.
Gillingham face local rivals in Bromley this term – after their promotion from the National League – and they head to South London for a midweek game on Tuesday, December 3.
The festive fixtures that follow see the Gills head to Colchester United on Boxing Day, Wimbledon away on December 29 and then host Bromley at Priestfield on New Year’s Day.
The opening week of 2025 sees the Gills make a trip to title-favourites Chesterfield on Saturday, January 4.
February could be an expensive month for the Gillingham away followers with two trips to Cumbria, a long journey to Clemence’s Barrow on February 8 followed by a visit to Carlisle two weeks later.
Gillingham have a couple of lengthy midweek trips in the second part of the season too as they head to Grimsby Town on Tuesday, January 28 and Newport County on Tuesday, March 4. Both of those games will be available live on Sky Sports.
Within seven days of the 2024/25 Fixture Release, TV selections are due to be made in respect of all matches to be played before the end of September. Before the start of the season, selections shall be made in respect of all matches scheduled to be played prior to the end of the third round of the FA Cup (January 11).
League 2 kicks off with a match between Chesterfield and Swindon, playing each other live on Sky Sports on Friday, August 9.
The 2024/25 season will see the launch of a new five-year deal between the EFL and Sky Sports that includes live coverage of Gillingham’s opening day and final day matches.
Gillingham’s final home game of the season is against old rivals Swindon Town on Saturday, April 26.
