Gillingham's new owner Brad Galinson preparing for a big January transfer window after taking over at the League 2 club

Gillingham look set to be shopping in a different kind of market now the club is in new hands.

US property-tycoon Brad Galinson has promised fans of an “aggressive and successful” January transfer window as the new owner looks to turn the club’s fortunes around immediately.

Mr Galinson takes over a club rock bottom in League 2 but funds will be available for manager Neil Harris to reshape the squad.

In a message to fans, posted on the club’s social media channels, Mr Galinson said: “On the pitch we need to score more goals, we need to move up the table and we need to have an aggressive and successful January transfer window, your team is ready to do this and things are already happening behind the scenes - the fans deserve better.”

His wife, Shannon, added: “We can’t wait to be in the building in January to roll up our sleeve and get to work.”

An earlier statement, declaring Mr Galinson’s purchase of a majority share of the club, Mr Galinson said that a “lucrative transfer window (was) on the horizon.”

That will be a huge boost to manager Neil Harris, who just hours earlier was speaking to the press about the forthcoming window. Even then Harris said he wasn’t sure “what market we are going to be shopping in yet.”

The confirmation of Mr Galinson’s takeover changes everything.

It means Harris won’t have to wheel and deal like he did in the summer, instead able to have the purchasing power to buy the kind of player he wants.

Speaking before the takeover was announced, Harris said: “What I do know is that we need some help as a group, some of the boys in the changing room need more help around them and I maybe need a few different and more options in certain positions because we sit around mid-table on goals conceded and miles bottom in the history of English football on goals scored.”

Asked if he had an idea of what he wanted to do, he said: “I know exactly what I want to change.”
