Gillingham are also running an under-21/B team from next season and the new venue will give them more space to train. The development side will use the pitch “as and when required.”

A 3G pitch has recently been installed at the at Darland Avenue facility which hosts the SEFA College.

Star Meadow co-owner Rich Radbourne said: "We are delighted to welcome our town's professional EFL club to Star Meadow.

"Gillingham's youth teams coming here every morning is a real feather in our cap, and it shows the quality of the venue and the professional environment we have created.

"In my opinion this partnership is a no-brainer for both parties and we are looking forward to growing our relationship with the Gills over the coming weeks and months."

Gillingham will play development matches next season but won’t be in a structured league, giving them flexibility to pick and choose opponents which suit them best at the time.

A Gillingham Development XI will play Hollands & Blair in a friendly match on Tuesday, July 4 (7.45pm).
