Frustrated Gillingham striker Tom Eaves is keen to stay upbeat

Striker Tom Eaves is determined to stay positive despite Gillingham’s rocky start to the new campaign.

The 25-year-old frontman was back in the starting XI on Saturday but couldn’t find a goal to get Gills off the mark, as their run without scoring stretched to four games.

“It was very frustrating,” said Eaves. “We had a few chances and I’m just waiting for one to fall for myself so I can have an opportunity to stick it in. It is going to come.

“We had some good passages of play at times, but again it was maybe the final ball and a few areas where we lacked, but I can’t fault the effort.

“We just have to stay positive. It is going to come round for us.

“We’ll analyse the situation. We will see what went wrong and what went right, and we will look to focus on the positives as well.

“We will look at it collectively and be honest with each other. There were positives to take.

“It is important to focus on those positives, we need to stay positive. I will analyse my own performance.

“It is disappointing but it is good to be disappointed because we want to win games.

“If you are not disappointed there is something wrong but we can’t dwell on it. We will go again Monday and come back strong.

“We are all good players, we wouldn’t be here if we weren’t. We did turn up and we did compete.

“The result didn’t go our way and that is frustrating but we just have to stay positive for Saturday.”
