Former Yeovil Town and Bolton Wanderers striker Tom Eaves has joined Gillingham

Big striker Tom Eaves has signed for Gillingham.

The former Bolton Wanderers forward, who stands at 6ft 5inch, joins after failing to agree a new deal with Yeovil Town at the end of last season.

Eaves, 25, played 48 games last season for Yeovil but has opted for a new challenge.

He has signed a two-year-deal with Gillingham, adding strength to the forward line for the coming season.

Gills head coach Ady Pennock is currently rebuilding the squad following a disappointing 2016/17 campaign. The Gills return from their summer breaks on Friday.

Newcomer Eaves started his career at Oldham but spent six years with Bolton, between 2010 and 2016.

He rarely featured for Wanderers, however, getting his football elsewhere on loan.

The striker, who has a good touch for a big man, had successful loan spells with Bristol Rovers, where he scored seven goals in 16 starts and Shrewsbury, where he hit six in 10.

Further loans spells followed at Rotherham, Shrewsbury again, Yeovil and Bury.

He scored seven goals last season during his one full season at Yeovil, netting frequently in the first half of the campaign in a tough year for his side, who finished 20 in League 2.

Eaves said: "I had a few options and spoke to Ady and I like the style of play, the way he wants to play and I struck up a good chemistry with Ady and Peter Taylor (the director of football).

"I like to play football, to get the ball on the floor and play. I am really looking forward to getting going."

He is the second player to arrive at Priestfield from Yeovil, with the Gills capturing defender Alex Lacey.
