Gillingham boss Steve Evans nominated for Sky Bet League 1 manager of the month award

Gillingham went unbeaten in the league through November with wins over Crewe Alexandra and AFC Wimbledon sandwiched between a draw with Charlton Athletic.

Manager Evans got his Gillingham team back on track after a tough October which had seen them lose five in a row.

The judging panel recognised that turnaround, commenting that “the growing maturity of his young side continued with victories over Crewe and Wimbledon in a seven-point haul from three games.

“Most impressive of all is that they had lost their previous five league games without scoring.”

The Gills had dropped to 17th following that run of defeats in October but are now back up to 11th, four points adrift of the play-off positions.

Accrington boss John Coleman is also in the running and they are the next visitors to Priestfield, on Tuesday evening. His team amassed 10 points from four fixtures after returning from a Covid-19 enforced lay-off.

Portsmouth’s Kenny Jackett picked up the same points return in their four games. Their striker John Marquis, a former Gills loanee, is nominated for the monthly player award. Hull City’s Grant McCann led his team to the top of the table, which is where they remain, with three wins from their three league games in the month.
