Ashley Nadesan scored twice for Gillingham on Tuesday night in a friendly match against Dartford.
Gills manager Neil Harris used the match to give some of his senior players much-needed minutes, including forward Nadesan, whose double helped the Gills to a 4-1 win.
With Macauley Bonne starting the last three league games, Nadesan has had to make do with substitute appearances. He gave the manager something to think about with his midweek double.
Gillingham let fans in to watch the fixture and Harris named a strong team to play the National South visitors, including naming forwards Jayden Clarke - who got a goal - and Lewis Walker in the starting XI. Left-back Max Clark also got a run-out.
Dom Jefferies made a welcome return from a hamstring injury and played the first half, which should hopefully put him in the frame to be involved at the weekend against Mansfield Town in League 2.
It was Dartford who struck first, however, with just two minutes on the clock, as Brandon Barzey struck. He pounced on a pass after Gills keeper Taite Holtam had come out to make a challenge.
Nadesan made it 1-1 with 12 minutes gone, blocking a clearance from keeper Tom Wray after Walker had played a ball in over the top.
Clarke hit the inside of the post for Gills and it was level at the break.
A second Gillingham goal came six minutes into the second half, Nadesan converting after being played in by Josh Chambers.
Ronald Sithole - on at half-time for Jefferies - made it 3-1 with a shot into the bottom corner after Walker’s initial effort had been blocked.
Clarke scored the fourth from the edge of the box just before the hour mark, which prompted a host of substitutions as Walker, Clarke, Nadesan and Clark made way for Joe Gbode, Kieron Agbebi, Kai Garrett and Harry Webster.
Dartford got a grip of the game after struggling in the first 15 minutes of the second half and almost got a goal back when Luke Coulson had a shot deflected wide and Lewis Manor went close from the subsequent corner.
