Ipswich Town are set to play the kids against Gillingham in Tuesday’s EFL Trophy clash.
The Gills head to Portman Road for their second match in the competition, one manager Steve Evans has continually said he doesn’t care about.
It’s not on Ipswich’s radar either and their manager Paul Lambert says the club are prepared to take a fine for making wholesale changes.
Town boss Paul Lamber said: “If it’s good enough for Jurgen Klopp to play his kids in the FA Cup when he’s got Premier League games and Champions League games to worry about, then it’s good enough for us,” reported the East Anglian Daily Times.
The club's assistant manager Stuart Taylor says it is a good opportunity for their youngsters to impress.
Speaking on the club's website, he said: "It's crucial that younger players get an opportunity to see what first-team football is like
“The competition was beneficial to us last year in that respect. We see the lads out training but it's not the same as seeing them out there in a proper match.
"They need to show what they can do.”
Ipswich picked up some injuries at the weekend and won’t risk anyone for the clash against the Gills.
Town have already lost their opening game in the competition, against Arsenal under-21s. Gillingham beat Crawley Town in their first group match. The Trophy starts with a four-team group stage. The top two sides qualify for the next round.
Gillingham played Ipswich in the competition last year, losing 4-0 .
