Gillingham will visit AFC Wimbledon in the opening round of the Carabao Cup - days after their visit for the League 2 opener.

The draw for the first round took place on Thursday afternoon, hours after the League 2 fixtures paired the Gills and Wimbledon together for the season opener on July 30.

Gillingham will be back at Plough Lane on the week commencing August 8.

Last season the Gills lost on penalties in the second round stage of the competition against Cheltenham Town. They had beaten Crawley Town in the opening round.

The Gills now also know their group opponents in the Papa John’s Trophy after Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s joined Colchester United and Charlton in Group A South.
