Gillingham are set to find out this week more news on the nature of injuries to Aaron Morris and Scott Wagstaff.
Morris, 26, hasn’t featured in pre-season and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Just how long may become clearer after meeting a specialist.
The player has already been out long-term with a knee injury earlier in his career having suffered cruciate ligament damage while playing for Aldershot in 2013.
Gills should also know the severity of Scott Wagstaff’s injury early this week.
The former Charlton and Bristol City midfielder was injured just eight minutes after coming on in the midweek pre-season match at Billericay.
Wagstaff has undergone scans on the calf injury and the Gills are awaiting a report.
Meanwhile Gills will be without Bradley Garmston for the opening weeks of the campaign. He will need at least another month to recover from a dislocated knee cap.
But boss Justin Edinburgh is confident centre-back Deji Oshilaja will be back for the season opener at Southend and even a run-out before that.
Edinburgh said: “I would be disappointed if he doesn’t play next Saturday at Leyton Orient.”
