Gillingham are away to Colchester United in their first behind closed doors pre-season fixture

Summer signing Ryan Jackson returns to his former side this weekend as Gillingham get their pre-season campaign underway.

Jackson left Colchester United in the summer after three years with the Essex side, making 120 starts for them in the league. He joined them after leaving Gillingham in 2017.

Jackson, 30, is now back with the Gills and is set to feature against the U's this Saturday. The match is being live streamed and will be available to fans of both clubs.

Both clubs have made it clear fans will not be able to visit the Community Stadium in Colchester while the games are being played, in line with government guidelines. Gills fans can access a basic feed, however, with no commentary and from a single camera angle, through United's ticketing website.

Gillingham players have been back training with the club for the last two weeks. They are preparing for the domestic season which starts with a League Cup match on Saturday, September 5.

Steve Evans’ side will take part in two 45 minute games against Colchester, with kick off times at 1.30pm and 3pm.

Evans has bolstered his squad in the last few weeks with seven new additions, including Arsenal loan pair Zech Medley - a former Howard School pupil - and Trae Coyle.

Right-back Jackson was the first to arrive this summer while winger Jordan Graham, formerly of Wolves, is also back permanently after a successful loan spell last season.

Midfielder Jacob Mellis, recent addition Alex MacDonald and striker Vadaine Oliver will be running out in Gillingham colours for the first time.
