Justin Edinburgh is keen to solve Gillingham’s defensive issues but not at the expense of their attacking threat.
The Gills have scored goals in each of their last 20 games but they also have one of the division’s worst defensive records – something Edinburgh is keen to solve.
He said: “The forwards certainly have goals in them and that is a big plus for any manager, knowing your team can score goals and we are certainly capable of that.
“I think we can still do better without the ball at times, in terms of our roles and responsibilities.
“This week gives me chance to work on that aspect of it and maybe just try and stop as many goals going in but continuing that flow of goals we are scoring right now.
“We want goals; goals win games and we certainly have that in abundance right now.”
On-loan striker John Marquis has scored five in seven since joining on loan from Millwall while strike partner Cody McDonald took his goal tally for the season to 14.
It’s a partnership that Edinburgh is delighted about.
“It is flourishing,” he said. “Whatever reason it happens sometimes. You pair two players together and they seem to strike up that understanding.
“John and Cody would be first to admit that they are different kind of players but they complement one another and I know, speaking with them and working with them, they really enjoy that.”
