Gillingham have gone back to Coventry City for another of their young players.
Declan Drysdale played against the Gills in the recent meeting between the two teams in the Carabao Cup and has now returned to play at Priestfield, just like his Sky Blues team-mate Josh Eccles has done. Eccles recently joined on loan from the same Championship side.
Gillingham boss Steve Evans was keen to add extra strength in the defensive department and 20-year-old Drysdale will do just that, joining on a season-long loan.
Evans said: "It was always the plan to have four young central defenders competing with each other.
"He is a powerful boy, has outstanding distribution and is very strong physically. He enhances everything we are about defensively.
"We wholly recognise the financial support from Coventry City, which is fantastic to see in these times in football."
The player started his career at Tranmere Rovers, making his debut against Maidstone United in April 2017, before City signed him in January 2019.
His chances with City have been limited and last season he was loaned out to Solihull Moors. He’s made two appearances for the club during the first few weeks of this campaign, both in the Carabao Cup, the last coming against the Gills when he played the full match against Evans’ side.
