Christian Maghoma is back training with Gillingham following after getting the all-clear following a Covid-19 test.
He’s the second Gills player to have been put into isolation this season after Alex MacDonald also underwent a test for the virus.
Midfielder MacDonald was left out of the squad for the recent trip to Wigan while more recently Maghoma was asked to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who had been tested positive for the virus. He missed the weekend game against Blackpool.
The Gills said: “The club can confirm that player Christian Maghma, who missed Saturdays clash with Blackpool, after coming into contact last week with someone with COVID-19, was tested on Friday and was confirmed as negative over the weekend.”
He reported back for training on Monday. The defender had started every game before being forced out on Saturday.
Gillingham boss Steve Evans said at the weekend it was inevitable his side would continue to be impacted by the virus. Two games in League 2 were called off on Saturday because of players catching the virus and another went ahead despite positive cases, as players were isolated.
“I have zero tolerance here,” he said.
“I have got babies in that dressing room and I have responsibility for them all. I have to do what is right and I will do what I would hope someone would do for my kids.
“We will have issues, I am not saying we won’t, but we have to do what we believe is right. This is about people’s live, this is a nasty virus, it’s stopped that Rainham End bouncing on Saturday but we have to respect it and be taking the advice that is right for all of us.”
