Midfielder Josh Eccles has joined Gillingham - just two days after playing against them in the Carabao Cup.
Eccles started for Coventry City in the Tuesday night cup game at Priestfield, which the Gills won on penalties .
It was a game overshadowed by an injury to Gills vice captain Stuart O’Keefe , suffering a possible broken leg following a challenge from City’s Amadou Bakayoko.
But the Sky Blues manager Mark Robins has now helped the Gills out in their shortage of midfielders - with captain Kyle Dempsey also out injured - by allowing Eccles to move to the Gills.
The 20-year-old is inexperienced - his three league appearances to date coming last season - but he was part of a side that started brightly at Priestfield on Tuesday, knocking the ball around well and were unlucky not to have taken an early lead.
Boss Steve Evans said: "He was very impressive on Tuesday night. He has a brilliant range of passing, physically strong and lots of energy and it fits with our strategy to have a youthful team.
“Given the interest in the lad at our level I am delighted he has agreed to join us. Our supporters will like this kid very much. I’m sure those that watched our game on Tuesday will have noted his performance.
“I am thankful to Mark Robins and Coventry City for all their help.
He’ll go straight into the Gills team for the match at Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
